The BabyCalm Mother and Baby Class:

A unique 4 week (8 hour) course, designed for new mothers and babies, incorporating baby calming and communication skills, interactive class discussion of many topics that new mums commonly face (such as birth debriefing, baby feeding worries, bonding with your baby, baby colic, baby reflux, constipation and wind in babies, lack of sleep and concerns about the health and wellbeing of their new baby) and baby touch therapy - a light baby massage routine developed by BabyCalm®. The classes will help you to bond with your baby, help him or her to be a calm and happy baby, free of colic, and help you to experience a stress-free relationship of trust, confidence and calm. These classes also provide an invaluable opportunity for you to make new friends with other local mums. If you would like to learn to trust your own maternal instinct rather than follow rules and routines set out by experts such as Gina Ford, Tizzie Hall and Jo Tantum, this is the course for you!

This course is most suited to newborn babies from birth to 20 weeks of age.

Cost: £75 per course. This includes comprehensive course notes and a free bottle of organic baby massage oil, and a BabyCalm® calming CD.

The BabyCalm Antenatal Workshop:

This workshop is designed to introduce new parents to reasons that babies are commonly unsettled, including an explanation of baby colic and common reasons babies cry, helping them to understand their baby before they are even born! You will learn how to be a confident mum or dad able to welcome your baby into a world where they are calmer and more settled and be armed with many techniques to make your babies transition from womb to world as smooth and comfortable as possible, avoid colic and aid sleep for the whole family. You will learn how to calm a crying baby and soothe colic as well as the secrets of how to get more sleep at night and how to get your baby to nap easily during the day. Dads are actively encouraged to attend this workshop, we focus heavily on the importance of fathers and roles that dad may play to support the mother and bond with their baby.

This course is most suited to couples between 30 and 38 weeks of pregnancy.

Cost: £35, including comprehensive course notes.

BabyCalm Baby Led Weaning Workshop:

This workshop is designed to introduce parents to the concept of baby led weaning, a method of introducing food to your baby following their lead and cues. You will learn about current weaning guidelines, and how the idea of babies feeding themselves and having control over their diet can lead to less fussy, healthier eaters which can impact long into adulthood. We will cover the science behind baby led weaning and give many ideas of food options for both home and away.

This is a great class for both mums and dads.

This workshop is most suited to parents of babies aged 4 months plus.

Cost: £35, including comprehensive course notes.

*NEW* BabyCalm Sleep Workshop

This special 3 hour baby sleep workshop is designed to help parents who are struggling with their baby's sleep, wondering if they will ever sleep through the night and battling sleep deprivation and exhaustion.

This baby sleep workshop is however very different to most other baby sleep help you may find. Our suggestions, tools and techniques are all based on sound scientific evidence and we guarantee that they will not cause harm to your baby, nor will they result in tears - for you or your baby!

We promise never to teach you to use controlled crying, rapid return, gradual withdrawal, 'pick up, put down', or any other behavioural related technique. Why? Firstly because we only advocate gentle sleep techniques and secondly, because whilst these behavioural techniques may work in the short term research shows that they may lead to far more problems, including poor sleep, in the long term.

You will learn:

  • What normal baby sleep looks like
  • How to maximize the amount of sleep your baby - and you - will get
  • The neuroscience of infant sleep
  • The pros and cons of the most commonly used sleep training techniques
  • Sleep safety and SIDS
  • Gentle alternatives to help your baby sleep
  • What to expect of your baby's sleep in the future
  • How to create good sleep habits - for life!

This is a great class for both mums and dads of babies aged 3 months to 12 months of age.

Cost: £35. Babes in arms are welcome.

Introduction to Slings and Carriers (Babywearing)

This workshop is designed to introduce new parents to the joys of babywearing. Carrying a baby in a sling is one of the most effective ways of calming a baby from birth, aiding their physical and psychological development, encouraging bonding and giving parents back two hands again! You will learn about all of these benefits in great detail and be introduced to the myriad of different baby slings on the market to help you select one most suited to your needs. You will see a demonstration of different carrying positions and slings including a wrap sling, a pouch sling, a mei tai and a soft structured carrier giving you the opportunity to have a play too! Dads are actively encouraged to attend this workshop, we spend a lot of time helping dads to realise how wonderful babywearing can be for them and why the popular "masculine" buckle baby carriers on the market in popular highstreet stores, may not be the best choice for them.

This is a great class for both mums and dads.

This workshop is most suited to couples at anytime during pregnancy and after birth.

Cost: This may be booked for groups only, please contact me for details and a quote.

FAQ

1. I really do not like the idea of baby training methods that involve routines and lots of crying, is BabyCalm® the course for me?

Rest assured that we at BabyCalm® dislike these methods too! I promise I will never teach you to let your baby 'cry it out' or control their crying in any way. Our ethos is completely different to most other baby experts such as Gina Ford, Tizzie Hall and Jo Tantum, we do not set routines and we do not position ourselves as the expert - instead we raise confidence in parents to trust their own instincts and be their own guru!

2. Can I bring older children to a BabyCalm® course or workshop?

No. As much as I adore all children, the BabyCalm® concept aims to provide a calm and peaceful environment and this is not always possible with toddlers and older children present, as I am sure you will understand!

3. Is it possible to hold a private BabyCalm® course or workshop?

Yes, I am happy to do this for a group of people. If you want to book the BabyCalm® baby calming parenting course for yourself and a group of friends or NCT antenatal group etc, the group size should be between 3 and 6 mothers. For the antenatal course, the group size needs to be between 5 and 10 couples. Price by negotiation depending on numbers, date and venue.

Many parents find that the full 4 week course is an extremely worthwhile option when taught privately just for the mother/ father and baby in their own home, particularly in the very early days if they are struggling with a crying baby with colic and sleep deprivation! The cost for this would be £190, including course notes, massage oil and CD. I also teach the 'Colic and Crying' 3 hour workshop privately in your own home. This covers some of the main points from the 4 week course, and is a very useful introduction. This costs £80; the CD and massage oil are not included.

The antenatal class taught privately in your own home costs £80.

4. How do I know it will work?

All BabyCalm® methods are based on sound scientific evidence and psychological research and tested on over 1000 babies.

5. How do I book and pay for the classes?

For all bookings and enquiries, please phone or email me. Courses should be paid for in full by the beginning of the first class; I accept cheques or bank transfers.

6. Do you offer refunds if I miss a class?

No, as I am unable to offer your missed class to anyone else; although I am happy to offer you the chance to attend the session you have missed on a subsequent group course free of charge.
